Well hello there!
It’s a snow day here in Portland but during the pandemic, for people like me, that means literally nothing. Actually even before the pandemic it meant very little since I’m a distributed worker. But Friday is part of my weekend so I spent some time marveling at the winter wonderland my little urban corner of the world has become. Letting the snow drift into my hair, and checking out the neighborhood plant life under the inches of accumulation. But I’m back inside for the day sipping on a lovely local bourbon from Bull Run Distillery while I write my weekly missive to all of you.
What even is this?
It’s a newsletter that’s mostly about plants and plants stuff but through the lens that is Cami… so… I still don’t know. It’s a choose my own adventure style look at plants and the plant world. And this week I told you about a local distillery whose bourbon I love. What will I think of next? No idea. Is there something you’d like to see here? Let me know!
New plants this week…
So. Some of you may remember this section last week. It was… there were some feelings being shopped and plant delivery times vary and I wound up with 17 new plants. I mean… 12 of those were tiny little succulents that came all together and will probably all be planted together in a lovely arrangement. But no excuses. It was a plant hoarding week and I’m owning up to that. And true to my word I didn’t buy a single new plant. Except… that. Well I do have a grocery delivery on order from our local bougie market. And they were selling orchids for Valentine’s day. I placed an order under 90% certainty that the groceries won’t be delivered and our order will be cancelled. So there is a 90% chance, in my mind, that I was true to my word and didn’t get any new plants this week. And a 10% chance I’m getting a new orchid and also all the ingredients for my partner to make lobster rolls this weekend. Between you and me I’m hoping I broke my vow of no plants. Mostly because I really want a lobster roll.
Links link links links links everybody!
I failed the big fail in my written content creation this week, but that’s okay because there is ton of interesting plant info that already exists on the internet. Here’s a few that seemed timely to me….

Top 10 Orchid DON’TS!!
Following up on my orchid love from last week, I found this quick video that walks you through the biggest mistakes people make. It’s a much more eloquent expression than my post last week. And addresses the ice-cube method I referenced that I had problems with. Spoiler: ice is one of the don’ts. I found this video so helpful I even subscribed to her channel.
Plant Tourism: closer to home
At the end of 2019, just before the pandemic began, I was visiting Seattle with my partner and one of our friends. I was there in part because there was a holiday-startup-tech-party-thing that my partner needed to attend and in part because my aunt (who is also my godmother and who I’ve looked up to more than literally any other human on earth) (yeah…. she subscribes but I’d say that even if she didn’t) and my two favorite cousins live there and I will take any excuse to see them.
While we were wandering around Seattle on that trip I walked right past this sphere and wanted to stand and stare just from the outside because I knew what was inside. Ignore who owns it… just enjoy the thought that it exists and that, in another time, it’s a place we could go.
And the featured Instagram account of the week is….
@plantkween
Did you know I have friends who are NOT plant people? I do. And embarrassingly enough one of them messaged me a week or two ago and shared the @plantkween account with me and I have been enraptured with them ever since. Their sense of joy and style coupled with their love of plants makes this a must follow plant account for me. Big hearts.
The end.
That’s it. that’s all I’ve got this week. But if you loved this pass it along to someone else. If you hated it you should let me know. Or just unsubscribe. That’s a viable option too <3
